Gemini aiming to be a star with Astra!

By Martin Thomas, 15 May, 2024

Google is certainly aiming for the stars.

Not only is their new AI model called Gemini which of course is the name of a northern constellation of stars but they are going to enhance this constellation with another star -Astra!

Google's owner Alphabet has revealed a new artificial intelligence agent that answers in real-time queries in multiple modes like video and audio as well as text.

This new AI multimodal assistant is called project Astra.

It was demonstrated by CEO Sundar Pichai during an annual developer conference on Tuesday, May 14th 2024.

The demonstration can be seen here:

Using the phone's camera and 'seeing' what the phone 'sees' the AI is analysing what is being shown to the camera. The Astra AI then responds to the voice commands of the user with the mobile phone about what is seeing and what it has seen.

The AI goes way beyond just a commentary of what is being seen.  It was able to examine what it was seeing, responds to questions and work out issues and make suggestions for improvements.  It was even able to see some code on a screen, just through the camera and identify what the code was actually doing.

These new amazing Ai advancements will be added to Gemini and other products during 2024.
