Ai? What are the 5 most useful skills for the future?

By Martin Thomas, 30 January, 2024

Technology is changing at a rapid rate as we are all well aware!

Technologies like Ai have already had a major impact in a very short period of time. With businesses predicting that 44% of workers skills will be disrupted by 2027.  Yes, 2027! not ten years out, its almost countable in months not years.

As the pace of technology change grows and businesses transform to adapt to this disruption what will the skills that we has humans will need to utilise this technology and contribute in this changed future?

The World Economic Forum (WEF) throws some light in this.

To help companies prepare and train their staff and deal with significant changes in demographics and expectations by those employed of their employers the WEF suggests these key skills will be in demand:

  1. Analytical Thinking - a 74% expectation in demand for this skill in the next 5 years
  2. Creative Thinking - a 75% increase in need over the same period
  3. Ai and Big Data - a prediction that 9% of training will be in this area
  4. Leadership - the highest ranked skill on the list
  5. Curiosity and lifelong learning - the ability of workers to adapt to change

This data came from 803 companies worldwide, in 27 industries, representing 11.3 million employees.

Like the skills themselves impacted by technology, technology can assist in training and educating employees and workers with a variety of associations with an employer.

Now is a good time to think about how your skills programme addresses these growing needs and how you employ technology itself to help.
